Birthkeeper: What It Is and How to Become One
There's no denying that pregnancy and childbirth are amazing, life-changing experiences. For many women, becoming a parent is the best thing that's ever happened to them. If you're one of those women who loves everything about pregnancy and childbirth, then becoming a birthkeeper may be the perfect career choice for you.

What is a birthkeeper? A birthkeeper is someone who helps to guide and support a woman through pregnancy, childbirth, and postpartum, more than a doula and yet not a midwife. They are also known as traditional birth attendants. You will generally find that a Birthkeeper is someone with birth experience, training, and holds unshakable respect for the uninterrupted physiological birth process and power of a woman's body to give birth.

As a birthkeeper, you'll have the opportunity to support women through one of the most amazing phases of their lives. You'll help them to feel strong and capable as they face the challenges of pregnancy and childbirth head-on. You'll be there to offer guidance, support, and encouragement every step of the way. It's an incredibly rewarding job and one that comes with a great deal of responsibility. But if you're up for the challenge, then there's no doubt that you'll love every minute of it!

You will also gain a deep understanding of the physiological birthing process and many other aspects of how amazing our bodies are along the way. In addition, being a birthkeeper is a great way to build strong relationships with other women and families, creating communities of support for years to come.

Aspiring birthkeepers have a few important things to consider before committing to any one path. First, it is important to find a program that believes in the same things you do regarding pregnancy and childbirth. There are many online courses available, but not all of them will be a good fit.
Secondly, consider what kind of end-goal you have for your journey. Originally, I thought I wanted to become a midwife, but after doing my research, I realized that wasn't the right path for me. In the end, the most important thing is to listen to your heart and go with what feels right for you. Trust your gut and you'll be sure to find the perfect fit.

I chose H.E.R.B.A.L. for myself because they aligned with my personal beliefs and are even more passionate than I am about educating and supporting women in this phase of life, which is really awesome to witness.

From free courses for mothers to be to lactation support and placenta preparation to traditional birth attendant live training opportunities, they have so many different ways to serve the birthing community and those who want to work in it. They believe in the natural ability of women to give birth the way only they can, it is a personal journey that is a mystery until it unfolds, however, it will for each individual. The passion that they have for sharing and bringing up birth workers who truly understand the natural process, how to assess every situation, and are capable of taking calm action when needed is inspiring.

Whether you are newly pregnant and seeking information to support you on your journey or, like me, are passionate about using your love for pregnancy and childbirth to support others in this phase of life, H.E.R.B.A.L. may have exactly what you are looking for. You can check their courses out here.
